Instead, we move from being awake, to stage one, two, three, four, and then three, two, one, before going into REM sleep! This cycle, which we like to think of as more of a “wave,” repeats over the course of the night. ![]() Which brings us to how we actually move through the sleep cycle! It’s important to note that each cycle isn’t, well, cyclical. It’s important to remember that we don’t go from being awake to being in REM sleep rather, we must pass through all the stages of NREM first. Even though this stage is the most similar to being awake, it’s the furthest point from wakefulness in terms of the sleep cycle.Blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing all begin to increase This is when, as the name suggests, our eyes dart up and down and all around, and is most likely when dreaming occurs. REM sleep: At the end of our cycle, we actually enter a light stage of sleep. Your blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing are all very low. Stage 4 is “deep sleep,” a stage that doesn’t want to be disrupted.Stage 3 is “slow wave sleep.” Here, blood pressure drops, heart rate further slows, and our breathing becomes slower and more rhythmic. ![]()

So there are a couple more headlining features that you’ll see everyone talking about, but before I also talk about those, I want to point out one easily missed, but really neat new feature that I think may have been a byproduct of the new auto support painter. Fewer design restrictions, more creative use of the geometric freedom that 3D printing brings without having to spend half an hour peeling your part out of a block of support material? Yes please. I’ve seen speculations whether designers are now going to start factoring this in and mechanical and organic parts are just going to be printed with a bit of support from now on. I didn’t see any improvements in how well the tree support material worked with the auto painter, which I guess really wasn’t the point in the first place, but the part also didn’t look worse – and I think that is a huge win for using 1/3rd of the material, and being much easier to remove. So final thoughts on support material: This is really cool. If you want to try the automatic support painter, make sure you also set the support mode to “enforcers only” or you’ll actually get more support material instead of less. So for example, bridges, if they’re short enough, get no support at all, and if they’re above a certain length, they get a bit of support material every now and then, and then essentially print as a bunch of shorter bridges between those. Now, thanks to new AI technology – no, it doesn’t use AI, it’s just smart programmers, I think – it detects which areas need supports and which don’t, and it does it a lot intelligently than the classic “support anything that has an angle over 60° from vertical” approach. ![]() PrusaSlicer has long had support material painting where it would only generate support material for the areas that you explicitly marked. You, can, of course, configure everything about these supports to your liking.īut the new supports actually work best with another new feature, and that is automatic support painting. If you look at these branches, they do widen up towards the bottom, so they don’t fall over, but they also branch out towards the top, so one single printed column can actually support a good bit of area. 2.6, it’s using almost 2/3rds less filament for the support material. These branches are printed with limitations to how steep they can be so that they still print reliably, they’re just one wall thick for most of the time, so even though they are quite rigid, they weigh barely anything, in this case using PrusaSlicer 2.5 vs. Tree support goes outside the part if it can, but if it must, it will still fall back to anchoring itself to the part. That can leave scars, especially on darker material, and it’s pretty often awkward to remove from tight spots like holes and little cubbies. I’ve also seen it called “tentacle support”, that works, too, so instead of building these sparse blocks just vertically straight up to the area that needs supporting, these can now snake around your part from the build plate and reach into spots that otherwise would need to have support material printed on top of the part itself. Okay, first big feature – support material. For me, it was working flawlessly, but in any case, it uses a separate config directory, so it’s not going to mess up your PrusaSlicer 2.5 profiles. Open Source is pretty beautiful when it works!Īlright, before we start, this is a pre-release piece of software, bugs aren’t just possible, they are expected. Some of the new features we’re going to look at are adapted from other open-source slicers and then fine-tuned for PrusaSlicer, and, vice-versa, I hope that other slicers pick up the rest of the features, too. ![]() ![]() Of course, this isn’t just for Prusa machines, you can use PrusaSlicer with any 3D printer that speaks gcode, in fact, the 2.6 release now out-of-the-box has tuned profiles for the new Elegoo Neptune series, Creality Sermoon and Ender-5 machines, the AnkerMaker, and even for Print4Taste’s food printer, a printer I’ve reviewed here on the channel, too. This one is 2.6, alpha 3 at this time at the time of me recording, and it brings with it some features that, each one on their own, are just, nice, but when you put them all together, it makes for an overall well-improved package. It’s a new year, it’s a new PrusaSlicer release. PrusaSlicer 2.6 might change how we work with 3D files (and you can use it with any 3D printer)! 10/4/2023 0 Comments Nasa fire map oregonThe Mosquito Fire in the Sierra Nevada foothills is currently the largest of the Californian wildfires, having destroyed over 47 square miles (120 square km) of forest since igniting last week.įollow Tereza Pultarova on Twitter. ![]() Burn severity Map of the Oregon 2002 Biscuit Fire. There are also third party reviews that indicate DeepL’s translations for Russian and Czech are more accurate than that of Google Translate.Īn often overlooked but critical factor of evaluating any neural machine translation platform is security. That said, DeepL prides itself on providing better, more accurate translations than Google Translate and similar services. While not all languages supported by Google Translate are quite so accurate-largely due to a lack of texts supporting the language translations-this indicates that the tool can be quite reliable from a quality perspective depending on the language. A research study from 2019 found that 92% of English to Spanish translations and 81% of English to Chinese translations were translated accurately. However, the tool has made leaps and bounds in terms of translation quality over the years. Given how long it has been around, Google Translate has in the past been lampooned for providing poor quality translations. If the languages you seek to translate are supported by both DeepL and Google Translate, then translation quality is, of course, the most important factor in distinguishing between the two. ![]() informal, this kind of functionality can make a key difference in translation output. For languages like French, Spanish, and Russian, all of which have nuances associated with formal vs. ![]() This can be important for properly translating brand names-for example, no one wants the “Apple” brand name to be translated into “manzana” or “pomme.” Another distinct feature, though one that is only available via the paid version of DeepL, is the ability to toggle between formal and informal tones. DeepL however does offer some key features not offered by Google, such as the ability to add terms to a glossary that dictates exactly how specific words should be translated. Like Google, DeepL also allows users to translate entire files such as PDFs or PowerPoint files into a different language, though there is no option for websites. Users can use their mobile phones’ camera app to capture a piece of visual text, such as a packaging label, and see a live translation of the text into the target language. The Google Translate app also permits users to translate image-based media in 27 languages. In addition to allowing users to input content directly into a textbox, Google Translate enables users to upload entire documents or web pages to be translated into any of its supported languages. ![]() While both translation engines contain the same core feature-allowing users to translate content between languages-there are a number of distinctions between supplementary options that users have to improve or personalize translations. This limited selection excludes some of the world’s most commonly spoken languages, including Arabic, Hindi, and Bengali-together which are spoken by 1.1 billion people worldwide. With the recent additions of Turkish and Indonesian, this brings the total count of languages supported by DeepL to 28, the majority of which are European. We can expect this number to increase, as Google currently has an additional 103 languages in development.Ĭonversely, DeepL supports significantly fewer languages. Having recently added 24 languages to its service, Google Translate currently supports 133 languages. One of the most obvious differences between the two platforms is the number of languages supported. To better understand the differences between the two, let’s take a look at several key factors that distinguish Google Translate from DeepL. DeepL itself claims to be varying degrees of more accurate than alternative solutions, including Google Translate. Some users have expressed sentiments indicating a preference for DeepL, stating that it outperforms Google Translate. Developed by a former Google employee, DeepL is also an NMT engine that has quickly emerged as a solid competitor to Google Translate. In 2016, Google switched to a neural machine translation (NMT) model that significantly improved its overall translation accuracy.ĭeepL was launched in 2017, over a decade after Google Translate. The tool originally provided word-for-word translations which provided limited, patchworked results. Created in 2006, Google Translate has become almost synonymous with the concept of free online translation. |
